RMAF and RMN new helicopter fleet: NH-95V Albatross Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) and Short Take Off and Landing (STOL)

RMN and RMAF recently received 24 and 32 units of NH-95V Albatross from NH Industries which will be equipped for RMN 503rd and 504th Squadron based at Naval Air Station Sitiawan...media told by RMN Fleet Commander.

The NH-95V is a multipurpose tiltrotor muti-mission aircraft design for maritime operations and tactical airlift operations capable of Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL) and Short Take Off and Landing (STOL)...powered by 2 Rolls-Royce Allison T406/AE 1107C-Independence turboshafts...the upgraded version of the same engine design use on V-22 Osprey..

RMN 503rd Sqn received first 6 units of NH-95V as composite helicopter unit for its NGPV while another 6 will be attached to RMN amphibious platform to support tactical helicopter operations during amphibious landing.

These aircraft are equipped for day and night, adverse weather and severe ship motion operations.

Additional roles include anti-air warfare support, vertical replenishment (VERTREP), search & rescue (SAR) and troop transport.

The 504th Sqn on the other hand received the remaining aircraft suit for full mission ASuW and ASW operations...fully equipped with Sea Skua IR ASM and AS-224 Mk.III torpedo...along with dipping sonobuoy for sub hunting.

The acceptance of all 24 aircraft greatly increase RMN ASuW and amphibious capability thus placing RMN among the most advance warfighting fleet in the region..

RMN suggest to the media that further purchases could be possible with the approval by the government to continue with SGPV programme..
