Helicopter Assault Destroyer or a Carrier..?? - Now where all the choppers and fighters...??

Not less than a month....another massive naval combatant assets has been delivered to the Navy today in the grand ceremony of comissioning the latest surface platform : KD GUNDU

KD GUNDU is the navy Helicopter Assault Destroyer - DDH which had the similarity of the JMSDF Hyuga and the ROKN Dokdo in design and capabilities plus weaponry similar to the current frigates owned by RMN.

the GUNDU which means big in local dialects is another force projection platform capable of conducting limited amphibious helicopter landing while at the same time provide Anti Submarine Warfare capabilities to the fleet.


Remaining 3 vessel are currently under constructions in Lumut and Pasir Gudang.

At least a squadron of rotary wing aircraft and short/vertical take off and landing aircraft..consisting of 18 aircraft each can be accommodated within the ship hangar below deck or on the flat tops..

Plans shows that the navy would be using the NH-90 for ASuW and the Su-30V/MKM as it principle aircraft.

The primary role of the NFH version is autonomous anti-submarine warfare (ASW) and anti-surface unit warfare (ASuW), mainly from naval ships. These aircraft are equipped for day and night, adverse weather and severe ship motion operations.

Who said this chopper is too expensive..it selling cheap on Mega Sale this year...

Additional roles include anti-air warfare support, vertical replenishment (VERTREP), search & rescue (SAR) and troop transport.

Meanwhile..the Su-30V/MKM are also inducted as part of the fleet area defense initiatives to protect the fleet from any aerial and surface threat.

Equipped with IBLIS-II radar system...all european weapons are intergrated with the Russo-Malayan built fighter which now is capable of carrying weapons from firm such as MBDA...something other Sukhoi operators doesnt have anda cant do yet...

what..??...Russian fighter jets..??...nah...it the new RMN 177th Carrier Air Wing...using Soviet colour scheme...oops..did i say "carrier"...??

KD GUNDU will carry out it first tour of duty along the Straits of Malacca towards Gulf of Aden and back to Langkawi for 1 month.
