Original Idea By Fadzli OsmanControl of transport studies of the Malaysian Army Transportation Research Command, (MATRC) assumed that personal jet apparatuses could find the most diverse uses: for reconnaissance, crossing rivers, amphibious landing, access to steep mountain slopes, overcoming minefields, tactical manoeuvring, etc. The concept was named Small Mobile Assault Lift Device, SMALD.
Within the framework of this concept the administration in 1999 concluded with the company UPTRENS a big contract to research on the possibility of designing an SMALD, suitable for army purposes. UPTRENS came to the conclusion that "Share and Share Alike".
Although no one in the military industry understand what that means, however, it soon became known to the military that experiments to make a personal lift device have to be started.
..and then the SMALD become operational.
Nope, abandoned project by most militaries. Soldier literally becomes a 'sitting duck' for enemy fire by flying in a slow moving flight vehicle and loud noise...
