GUNSHIP - Gunned Up Nuri Support Helicopter Interim Programme

The government is considering not phased out the Nuri helicopters, the house was told yesterday.

"We decided on acquiring replacement for the ageing helicopters but Nuri will still be in service with the army air wing since we cannot afford to buy more helicopters for other military branch or other government agencies due to the current economic situation" said Deputy Defence Minister Datuk Dr Abd Latiff Ahmad.

"We went over a few aspects to ensure that Nuri could be use for other roles,thus the programme dubbed GUNSHIP had set up the most effective role for Nuri which will be worth it, especially since the helicopters are required to be equipped with suitable weaponry for supporting air cavalry operations" he said when replying to Nicham Jakalia (BN-Paris) who wanted to know the status of the Nuri helicopters.

Currently the government had announced on upgrading the whole fleet of Nuri supersonic variants..but due to special request from the army for new utility transport helicopter... government decided that the number of the supersonic variant were reduced to half..while the other half were destined for GUNSHIP project...so government could save up a few hundred millions for politicians RMK--11 entertainment..golf and leisure budgets..instead of buying new helicopters...

For the time being the government under a political cronyism and nepotism contracts will upgrade the Nuri to a newer and stronger airframe..with a much powerful engine..plus two 155mm howitzer for main weaponry...complete with advance avionics and weapon system integrations...

The help of technical support from Burkina Faso were sought to help Malaysian companies who are involved in upgrading the Nuri to become the army not so new heavy transport helicopter gunship..under the GUNSHIP project led by AIRUDE and SAPOORAH...

media were told that spending on defence had to be reduce so politician could enjoy better entertainment while not brickering at the parliament on weekdays...
